

The 2025 Opening Ceremony for the SNU-CMU HCAI Research Center took place on February 13 at Seoul National University (SNU), marking a significant step forward in the collaboration between the two institutions in Human-Centered AI research.
For this special occasion, CMU faculty members visited SNU, where they were warmly welcomed by SNU faculty members. The event featured insightful discussions on the center’s vision, upcoming research initiatives, and opportunities for joint projects, reinforcing the strong partnership between CMU and SNU.
Through this center, both universities aim to pioneer innovative AI solutions that emphasize human-centered design, bridging academic expertise from diverse fields.

A collaborative workshop between Seoul National University (SNU) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) was held from July 31 to August 2, 2024, at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. The event brought together 47 participants, including 20 from SNU and 27 from CMU, for in-depth discussions and strategic planning.
The workshop's primary goal was to foster stronger collaboration between the two universities by exploring potential joint research projects, operational strategies, and opportunities for synergies in various academic fields. Through interactive sessions, participants shared insights on enhancing research cooperation, discussed the development of collaborative frameworks, and worked on identifying key areas for future joint initiatives.
This workshop marked an important milestone in further solidifying the relationship between SNU and CMU, with both institutions committed to expanding their collaborative efforts to tackle pressing global challenges.
Seoul National University (SNU) hosted the SNU-CMU Workshop from July 25 to 28, 2023, inviting 12 researchers from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), renowned for its excellence in computer science and interdisciplinary research.
The workshop focused on future AI technologies across four key areas: personal life and health, ethics and society, culture and media, and education. Prominent CMU faculty, including Professors Robert Kraut, Scott Hudson, and John Zimmerman, collaborated with SNU faculty to share insights and explore directions for joint research.
SNU plans to support collaborative projects derived from this workshop and establish an international research hub with CMU by 2025, strengthening global partnerships and fostering innovation.
